Compass card

Dry compass

A very light paper rim. White with black markings graduated to quarter points and quadrantally in degrees. The quadrantal markings consist of one normal and one reversed sets. There are silk threads running from the rim to an aluminium boss at the centre. The needles, ten in number in five pairs, are suspended by silk threads. The needles measure: 3.5", 3.4", 3.2", 2.75" & 2.2" (8.9, 8.6, 8.0, 7.0 & 5.4 cm). There are two weights attached to the ends.
