America (1810); Barham (1811); Gloucester (1812)

Scale: 1:48. This is a contemporary copy of a plan from Plymouth Dockyard showing the inboard profile for America (1810), a 74-gun Third Rate, two-decker while being cut down to a 50-gun Fourth Rate, Frigate at Plymouth (see ZAZ1704 for the plan). This was copied for use by Woolwich Dockyard when fitting the Barham for sea in 1831. She too had been cut down from a 74-gun Third Rate to a 50-gun Fourth Rate in 1826.

The plan was later used for cutting the Gloucester (1812) down to a 50-gun Fourth Rate from a 74-gun Third Rate at Chatham Dockyard between 1831 and 1832.

Signed by Oliver Lang [Master Shipwright, Woolwich Dockyard, DATES] and initialled by William Symonds [Surveyor of the Navy, 1832-1848].

NMM, Progress Book, volume 6, folio 169 states that 'America' (1810) was at Plymouth Dockyard where she was reduced (cut down) to a frigate between 27 March 1827 and 13 February 1835. This co-insided with an Admiralty Order dated 20 March 1827 to reduce her to a frigate. A roof was built over her waist in February 1835.

NMM, Progress Book, volume 6, folio 236 states that 'Barham' (1811) was at Woolwich Dockyard where she was reduced (cut down) to a frigate between 23 December 1825 and 18 September 1826. She subsequently returned to Woolwich Dockyard between 25 July 1830 and 6 June 1831 where she was fitted for sea.
