Liquid compass and binnacle

Liquid compass with binnacle. Inscribed on verge ring: 'PATT.0919 COMPASS No 1502K.S'. Inscribed on a plate at the base of the binnacle: 'PATT 0919/Compass/No.1520K'.

Bowl: Grey painted brass with filler plug at side, and expansion chamber at base with glazed botted. Inside of bowl painted white. Black lubber line carried on white painted metal strip. Mounted in brass gimbal ring.

Card: Dia 3.75" (9.5 cm). White plastic with black markings attached to high domed black painted float at centre. Graduated quadrantally.

Needle: Unsighted.

Pivot: Unsighted, but stem can be seen secured on bridge mounted across base of bowl.

Binnacle: Dia 9" (22.9 cm). Grey painted brass, with hood incorporating oil lamp illumination housing and glazed oval hinged window. Gimbal locking lever at side. Handle on top. Additional base plate fitted so that binnacle could be slewed when necessary.
