Liquid compass - submarine
Liquid compass for use in submarine projector binnacle.
Bowl: Grey painted brass, two filler plugs at side and four expansion chambers. Inside of bowl painted white with lubber mark carried on a large black metal frame attached to side. Mounted in grey painted brass gimbal ring 9.5" (24.1 cm) diameter.
Card: Dia 3.25" (8.2 cm) Black painted mica with clear markings, graduated quadrantally in degrees and to 360 deg. Attached to black painted float at centre.
Needle: 2 x 2.0" (5.1 cm) of circular section mounted below float.
Pivot: Black metal pivot stem, secured at centre of bridge across centre of bowl, carries a steel pivot point which engages in jewelled conical pivot cup at centre of float.
O.A. height 3.51" (8.0 cm)
In a fitted wooden carrying case 10.0" x 10.0" x 5.5" (25.4 x 25.4 x 14.0 cm)
