NMM, Progress Book, volume 2, folio 272, states that 'Repulse' was named by Admiralty Order dated 19 June 1759. Repulse was resurveyed afloat on 6 March 1770 and found to need between Small and Middling Repairs. She arrived at Mr Bateson's Yard on the River Thames on 16 November 1770 and was docked on 18 November. Repulse was surveyed in dock on 5 December 1770 and found to want a very large repair, estimated to cost £5,246. She was undocked on 24 December 1772 having undergone Middling to Large Repairs at the cost of £10,121.7s.10d. She sailed to Deptford Dockyard to be fitted for sea.
