Shoe horn
A brass shoe horn made by Chief Petty Officer W. Solkhon (1872-1919).
William George Solkhon was born in Lambeth on 14 December 1872 and entered the Royal Navy on 17 April 1895. In civilian life he was employed as a coppersmith and served in the Royal Navy as an Engine Room Artificer. He served in the Mediterranean in 'Irresistable' in 1902 and on the Australian station between 1905 and 1908. He was in HMS 'Hermes' during 1913 when she was refitted to act as an experimental seaplane carrier. During World War One, Solkhon served in 'Indomitable' in July and August 1915 and on the troopship 'Mars' during the evacuation of Gallipoli. He died of cancer in early 1919.
