Binnacle: Dia 16.75" (42.5 cm) Consists of a heavy grey painted brass skeleton binnacle stand 51.0" (129.5 cm) high. On top of the stand there is mounted a grey painted brass device 11.5" (29.2 cm) dia. 22.0" (55.9 cm) high. It is fitted with four rectangular apertures with hinged shutters at side; a round aperture at top. An oil lamp is fitted to top which is covered by a grey painted conical hood, the inner surface of which is silvered to reflect the light downwards to light the interior of the instrument. The base of the instrument carries a black painted ring with white markings, graduated to 360 degrees. The instrument can be rotated in azimuth by two grey painted brass knobs at base.
Hood: High domed grey painted brass fitted with two handles but no apertures.
