Austral (1881)
A whole plate negative of a port broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Austral (1881) sunk at Sydney, New South Wales. She is sitting on the bottom of the harbour with just her masts, funnels and the top of her bridge above water. The ship foundered while coaling on 11 November 1882. A cofferdam was constructed around the hull and she was refloated 1 March 1883. A copy negative made by Gould & Son from an original photographic print by an unknown photographer.
