Canton (1889)
A 12x10 negative. A distant port broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Canton (1889) just getting under way in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is flying a pilot flag, her port anchor is just clearing the water and her accommodation ladder amidships is still deployed. Two unidentified tugs are at anchor in the foreground. Another tug is manoeuvring near the stern of the liner and a stumpy spritsail barge is under sail heading downriver. Tilbury Fort gatehouse is in the background.
