A distant starboard near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Carlisle City (1894) just getting under way in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is bound out for the U.S.A. and the pilot launch is alongside amidships. Tilbury Fort and the Watergate are in the background.
