Coptic (1881)
A port near broadside view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Coptic (1881) under tow in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. The towing tug is out of the picture. The Coptic (1881) is as built with three yards on each of her fore, main and mizzen masts and a spanker on her jigger mast. She has a short funnel. The screw tug Game Cock (1883) is at anchor in the foreground. Tilbury is in the background. The emulsion of the original whole plate glass negative numbered G1922 has lifted and it is now unrpintable. A 12x10 photographic print was produced from the negative prior to its demise and is available for scanning or other copying.
