Deccan (1868)
A whole plate negative. A poor quality port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Deccan (1868) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has two yards on each of her fore and main masts and none on her mizzen. The Tilbury ferry Earl of Essex (1877) is alongside her accommodation ladder. Tilbury is in the background. The original negative has peeled off and been discarded but a safety sheet film copy negative has been produced from a 12x10 photographic print made from the original negative in the 1950s. Negatives numbers G1866 and G2141 were taken on the same occasion.
