Eastwood (1870); Thames, River
A 12x10 negative. A general view of the River Thames at Gravesend covered in floating ice during the severe winter in February 1895. The photographer is looking west-north-west from the Royal Terrace Pier upriver towards Northfleet Hope. In Gravesend Reach the collier Eastwood (1870), seen from abaft her starboard beam, is at moorings and the two funnelled paddle tug India (1875) is near her stern. A Gravesend-Tilbury ferry is alongside the Town Pier on the left. The Tilbury Hotel is in the right background. 'Thames February 1895 Off Gravesend' is scratched on the reverse of the negative.
