Ionic (1883)
A half plate negative. A port near broadside view, taken from only just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Ionic (1883) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has a short funnel and yards on the fore and main masts. It is low tide and a paddle vessel is beached on the Tilbury shore in the background to left of centre. A stackie spritsail barge is at anchor beyond the stern of the liner and Coast Guard Watch Vessel CGWV.28 (1847) is drawn up on shor by the coast Guard station in the right background. A copy of a Gould original negative not held in the Collection.
