Latona (1898)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the former spritsail barge Latona (1898) at moorings off Little Thurrock Marshes on the River Thames. She is an much modified for a voyage to Para, Brazil, on the River Amazon. Steel bulwarks have been fitted at bow and stern and she has a single masted jury sailing rig consisting of a foresail, a square sail on a yard, and a mainsail. She has also been given a large boom to handle her boat. She left her moorings under tow of the tug Parreiras Horta (1908), together with the similarly converted barge Cedric (1903), on 18 July 1909. A 2 masted topsail schooner is in the background.
