Lydian Monarch (1881)
A whole plate negative. A port broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Lydian Monarch (1881) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has an auxiliary sailing rig with four yards on each of her fore and main masts, comprising a course, double topsails and single topgallants. She is flying the blue peter from her foremast. Two small steam launches are alongside her port side and larger steam vessels are alongside her starboard side. Tilbury is in the background. The emulsion has lifted from the original glass plate which has been discarded but a sheet film copy negative has been made and a 12x10 photographic print produced in the 1950s from the original negative is also available.
