Mahratta (1892)
A 12x10 negative. A distant port broadside view of the cargo liner Mahratta (1892) under way in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is bound upriver in ballast and is serving a Boer War transport number 94. She has three yards on her foremast, horse stalls are fitted in her well decks and her port anchor is not housed. Tilbury docks are in the background.
Gould took a very similar negative within a minute of this one but it has not survived. A print from this negative is in existence, has been photographed in 35 mm film format and given the negatives numbers 58/3853 and 58/3855 (an enlargement of 58/3853).
