Malacca (1892)
A whole plate negative. A fair quality port quarter view, taken from wide off the stern, of the passenger/cargo liner Malacca (1892) at moorings in Port Said, Egypt. awnings and canvas windsail ventilators are rigged and she is flying the ensign of the Russian Volunteer Fleet. She was captured in the Red Sea on 13 July 1904 by the Russian Volunteer Fleet steamship Petersburg (1894), a Russian crew put aboard and taken to Suez where her passengers and company crew were landed. she sailed from Suez 21 July 1904 and arrived at Algiers 27 July 1904 where she was released and returned to her rightful owners. A copy negative made by F C Gould & Son from a photographic print by an unknown photographer.
