A whole plate negative. A starboard broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Merkara (1875) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has two yards on her foremast and is flying the blue peter. Her accommodation has not yet been upgraded. A number of small boats are gathered near her accommodation ladder. Tilbury is in the background.
