Palawan (1895)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Palawan (1895) just getting under way in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is flying the blue peter and a pilot flag, her anchor is being hoisted and a tug, which is out of the picture, has taken the strain on the bow line. Tilbury Fort gatehouse is in the right background. The Tilbury-Gravesend passenger ferry Thames (1868) and another ferry are moored close to shore out of service in the left background.
