A 12x10 negative. A starboard broadside view of the 4 masted barque rigged general caqrgo sailing vessel Madagascar (1888) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is preparing to slip from the mooring and is connected to a tug ahead. She is in ballast and she is rigged with double topsails, single topgallants and single royals. The tug Simla (1898) is alongside amidships. Tilbury Fort gatehouse is in the background.
