Surat (1866)
A whole plate negative. A fair quality port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Surat (1866) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, after lengthening. She has two yards on her fore mast and none on her main and mizzen. An awning is rigged forward of the mizzen mast. Tilbury is in the background. The emulsion of the original negative has peeled off and the negative has been discarded. A sheet film copy negative has been produced from a 12x10 photographic print produced from the original negative in the 1950s.
