National Windrush Museum Summer Season

The National Windrush Museum proudly presents its exciting lineup of events and activities for the Windrush 76 Summer Season.

Continuing the success of 2023's historic collaboration with Royal Museums Greenwich, NWM is thrilled to commemorate the rich heritage and cultural significance of the Windrush generation with a diverse range of programming.

NWM Windrush Lectures at the Queen's House, Royal Museums Greenwich

The Summer Season Lectures aim to honour the enduring legacy of the Windrush generation and their profound contributions to British Society. Through engaged discussion, attendees will delve into the rich history of the Windrush journey, and explore it's cultural significance today.

An Evening with Levi Roots

To celebrate the launch of the Summer Season, the Queen's House will play host to a celebration of cultural heritage with chef and entrepreneur Levi Roots. In reflecting upon his career and those who came before, Roots has stated that he pays 'testament to the resilience and strength of the Windrush Generation, and [is] privileged to share their stories and celebrate their achievements.' The evening will feature a keynote address, as well as an audience Q+A. The lecture will begin at 7pm, and will be preceded by a networking drinks reception from 6.15pm.

Resilience and the Windrush Legacy with Professor Dame Donna Kinnair

International Conference

This year the National Windrush Museum's International Conference: Remix and Rewind, will explore the theme of Future Identities: Migration, Settlement and Transformation. 

The conference will take place on June 19 and 20 at Greenwich University, featuring Keynotes from Professor Robert Beckford, Director of the Institute for Climate and Social Justice at the University of Winchester; and Tonya Nelson, Executive Director, Enterprise and Innovation at the Arts Council. The NWM NextGen Council will host sessions exploring the intersection of AI, social media, style and the future of the Windrush generations.

Fashion and Music Soundstage, Great Greenwich Windrush Trail

As part of the Greenwich Festival Funded Great Greenwich Windrush Trail, the National Windrush Museum will host a celebration of fashion and music at Moorings Sociable Club in Thamesmead. Delve into intergenerational Windrush narratives with the vibrant NWM Windrush Next Gen community at a captivating event hosted on a Windrush-inspired soundstage, blending fashion and music in an immersive experience.
