• The competition organiser is Royal Museums Greenwich. By entering the promotion, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the rules. All entry instructions form part of the rules.  
  • The organisers reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions without notice.   
  • This promotion is open to attendees of the 2024 New Scientist Live festival. In addition they must be UK residents aged 16 or over, and may not be employees of the Promoters, their families, agents or anyone professionally connected with the promotion. Proof of eligibility must be provided upon request.  
  • To enter the competition participants must complete and submit an online survey conducted by astronomers at Royal Observatory Greenwich. 
  • The promotion comprises two separate surveys and prize draws: one for attendees of the New Scientist Live public days on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October, and one for attendees of the New Scientist Live Schools' Day on Monday 14 October.
  • The public attendees competition launches at 9am on Saturday 12 October. The Schools' Day competition launches at 9am on Monday 14 October. Both competitions close at 23:59 on 28 October 2024. All entries must have been completed before 23:59 on 28 October 2024 in order to be entered into the prize draws.
  • Three winners from the public competition will be randomly selected. The prizes comprise:
    • 1st prize: Free Royal Museums Greenwich Family Membership for one year.
    • 2nd prize: Free entry for up to six people to a Royal Observatory Greenwich planetarium show of the winner's choice. 
    • 3rd prize: Three books from Royal Museums Greenwich's range of Astronomy and Space publications.
  • Three winners for the Schools' Day competition will be randomly selected. The prizes comprise:
    • 1st prize: A free planetarium show for the competition winner and their class (up to 30 students). The show must be booked on a Thursday from January 2025 onwards. Alternative, a free online workshop for the competition winner and their class (up to 30 students). The workshop must be booked during a free online schools session or on a Thursday from January 2025 onwards.
    • 2nd prize: A free visit to the Royal Observatory historic site for a class of up to 30 students.  
    • 3rd prize: Three books selected by Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomers based on the age of the competition winner's class.
  • The prize does not include anything other than that specifically mentioned above and there is no cash alternative.  
  • Internet access is required.
  • Multiple duplicate entries, either from the same account or different accounts, will be disqualified.  
  • No applications from agents, third parties, organised groups or applications automatically generated by computer will be accepted. No incomplete or corrupted entries will be accepted. Entries will only be accepted if they comply with all entry instructions.  
  • Responsibility is not accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt.  
  • Three competition winners from qualifying entries in each prize draw will be randomly selected at the close of the Promotion Period. The decision of the selection is final.  
  • The winners will be contacted within 7 days of the closing date with details of the Prize. If the winner does not respond ​within a further 7 days to confirm receipt of the prize, then an alternate winner will be selected.  
  • By accepting the prize, the winner accepts that their name and further details will be shared with Royal Museums Greenwich in order to post the prize. 
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Royal Museums Greenwich excludes its liability for any loss, damage, injury, cost or expense suffered by you, whether directly or indirectly and howsoever caused, in connection with the competition and use of any prize.
