A school visit to the Royal Observatory offers students an inspiring, curriculum-linked experience, with unparalleled opportunities to meet astronomers, engage with cutting-edge science and explore big ideas
We offer a wide range of facilities for visiting schools including the award-winning Time Galleries, the interactive Weller Astronomy Galleries, the Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust Learning Centre and the Peter Harrison Planetarium.
Our on-site programme at the Royal Observatory is currently paused, but you can still join us for brilliant digital workshops and activities.
What you can choose from on your visit
We offer three types of very flexible visit day: a Discovery Day, a Space Spectacular Day and a Study Day (secondary only).
Depending on the key stage and what you choose your visit can include a planetarium show, an interactive workshop or science theatre show, a masterclass, a self-facilitated visit to the Weller Astronomy Galleries and a time-slot in the lunch room.
Royal Observatory classroom resources
We have a huge selection of resources to choose from that can be used before or after your visit. They include: classroom activities, videos, blogs, podcasts and even the chance to video chat with an astronomer.
