February's Item of the Month has just been published. Penny take s a look at 'Camp Magazine', produced by prisoners of war from the Royal Naval Division interned in Groningen (Holland) between 1914 and 1918. Camp Magazine, according to its creators, was produced to reflect camp life at Groningen and the many events and activities organized for the men to ensure their captivity was less of a hardship. From volume 7, October 1915, in a review of the past 12 months of imprisonment, the editor notes the reason for the publication: ‘It has been our aim from the first, that the
Camp Magazine should prove to be an impartial record of our internment’ and ‘the task we set out to accomplish – that of portraying our life here in a readable form’. Take a look at:
