July's Item of the month has just been posted. Mark takes a look at the photo journal of British naval officer Geoffey Rayne, who among things served in balloons!
Rayne describes the frustrations of worn out machinery and the alarming experince of being attacked by a German aeroplane whilst suspended aloft in the balloon, with virtuallty no powers of manuovere! Though frustrated at missing the battle of Jutland, Rayne saw service at Gallipoli and with the Grand Fleet and went onto witness the internment of the German fleet at the end of the war. He also took lots of photographs!
