At the end of her six month secondment, Victoria Syrett reflects on her time at our Caird Library and Archive.
I’ve been doing a six month secondment with the archive team, learning how the library and archive work together as a team to give the best experience to the public that walk through the doors. Not only will I miss the archives and all the wondrous items that are stored there but the wonderful team who go out of their way to help people.
When asked what I'd choose as the Item of the Month I had to say the Caird Library and Archive itself! Full of wondrous treasures and the odd surprise the Caird Library and Archive is worth visiting whether you’re researching family or have an interest in naval history.
We are constantly acquiring new material such as the Fowke family papers which include logbooks, letters, photos and wills from the 1700’s to the early 1900’s. If you’re unsure where to start the library and archive team are more than happy to help you get started.
So take a wander through our online catalogues to see what we have stored away. Here’s a poem I wrote to give you a better idea.
Note: The public might be pleased to know that Victoria, after having terminated her secondment with the Library and Archive team, was employed permanently as Archive Assistant.
