Come along to Ship Mates, running during term-time Wednesdays, and explore Cutty Sark's hidden corners and stories as our Early Years Practitioners bring the ship to life through song, stories and play.
Each week the Early Years Practitioner will explore a different theme with your family, inspired by the ship and the people who have lived and worked on board. From the animals who lived onboard to the sails we see when we look up, the team will support your family to explore together.
Sessions take place inside Cutty Sark and will encourage your family to participate in facilitated activities as part of a group. There will be opportunities to meet other families, for children to direct activities, and for adults to discover activities that can be used outside the session as you continue to explore together.
Why has Toddler Time stopped?
Between November and February Royal Museums Greenwich consulted with local families and evaluated the Toddler Time sessions against the aims of the programme and the needs of local families. The results demonstrated that the programme wasn't supporting early years families in the ways they needed, such as providing ideas of how to engage toddlers and babies with a visit to the ship. As a result we have launched a new programme, in place of Toddler Time, that centralises the needs of early years families and creates a unique and playful programme for babies and toddlers.
Toddler Time will look a little different over the next few months as we bring in guest early years practitioners to take families on a new journey.
We’ll be trying out storytelling and musical activities, engaging with the stories of Cutty Sark and the people who lived or worked around the ship, and making sure that the sessions support your little one’s development.
Sessions will be 45 minutes, starting at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2pm, and will take your family in and around the ship.
Toddler Time will still be free for members, and the cost of the ticket will still provide access to the ship. Both Members and non-Members will still need to book tickets through the ticket link above or purchase on the day at the Welcome Desk.
What will be different?
- You’ll need to arrive a few minutes early to ensure you can park your buggy and then make your way into the ship.
- The size of the group will be smaller to allow the practitioner to spend time with everyone. This also means the timings have changed to allow us to host more sessions and continue to meet the demand.
- The sessions will make use of music and storytelling, and will take place inside the ship
- Each date will be led by a different early years practitioner
- We’ll be asking you what you think of the sessions to help us make Toddler Time a better experience for your family
