In 2022, pupils from Rathfern Primary School joined forces with the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory to take part in a special collaboration about climate science, get involved in workshops, and create art to send 'Messages from our Ocean'. We will be running sessions again in the run up to World Oceans Day 2023!

These special artworks were created as part of World Oceans Day 2022, and you can see all their work on display below.

In the session, students learned about aspects of our history and interaction with water and our ocean that make it so valuable to life on the planet. Afterwards, they developed artworks that spoke with the voice of our ocean to bring awareness to the changing conditions of our ecosystem.

With the success of the session in 2022, we are offering more sessions in time for World Oceans Day 2023, a KS2 session focusing on Earth as a habitat, life's relationship to water, and the role of climate on both aquatic and terrestrial life.

The session will explore questions such as: Why is water important to life on Earth? What can we learn from looking closer at our ocean? How is our ocean changing? What are important factors affecting the wellbeing of our world and our ocean? What makes an ocean world able to support life?

If you are a school interested in taking part in one of our KS2 sessions across May or June 2023, please get in contact. Email: Learning@rmg.co.uk
