In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Report by Commissioners at Chatham relating how they have been aboard the WINCHESTER and have seen a new type of pump in operation. They state that it evacuates perhaps a little more than a chain pump but is extremely troublesome and heavy and conclude that chain pumps are to be preferred. The letter bears eight signatures, presumably of dockyard officials.
