Midshipman's workbook entitled 'A Plan of Learning Executed by Charles Steevens at the Royal Academy, Portsmouth, 1753'. It contains exercises in mathematics, navigation, astronomy, surveying, gunnery and fortifications, also a plan and profile of the academy building.

Administrative / biographical background
Midshipman Charles Stevens (1735-1756) was the only son of Nathaniel Steevens, youngest brother of Rear-Admiral Charles Steevens (1705-1761). He was born in 1735 and educated at the Royal Academy, Portsmouth. He was a midshipman on his uncle's ship, the ORFORD, and died in 1756.
