In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Turkey convoy arrived here [Cadiz] being out of provisions and stores, there being none here and no credit to buy any. The Commissioners of the Victualling have written to Mr William Hodges, merchants here, that he should not supply their agent with credit without order from them. I have given orders to Mr Harvey, Agent of the Victualling, to supply the 9 ships bound home with 56 days provisions if he can get money to buy them. When Captain Leake with his squadron went for provisions, Mr Hodges lent the agent £10,000 to supply them he had no idea that the Commissioners of the Victualling would order their agent to draw no more bills. Signed by Admiral Nevill at Cadiz.
