In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
By the instructions given to the Commanders in Chief of such Ships as are ordered to be laid up and paid off at Chatham, Portsmouth and Plymouth, for managing the Guard Boats in these harbours, it is directed that the said Boats shall be commanded nightly by Captains and Lieutenants of the aforesaid Ships. Some inconveniences have attended the appointment of Warrant Officers to command these boats, contrary to Instructions. We therefore direct you forthwith to give the necessary Orders that for the future no Warrant Officers should command any of the said Boats, and the previous Instructions should be complied with in every respect.
