In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

In obedience to your warrant of 9 February, we have considered the proposals and are of the opinion that the sudden decay of timber in new ships is due to the greenness of timber when it is first wrought containing much sap in the grain. The proposal to bore holes and squirt salt water therein will not answer the ends which the proposer fancies. Signed by Sampson Bourn, Barak Pitts, Charles Finch, and Ben Rosonvell; Shipwrights. Date not given.
