In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Mr Dodington discussed the difference of his account with that of this office of the balance in the Treasurer's hands at 31 December. I find that the balance sent agrees with the balance here at that time, but the difference, Mr Dodington thinks, arises (i) from the recoinage of old money for which he says he has a tally of discharge from the Exchequer, but there appears to be no authority here to give him credit for this. (ii) He did not expect that the money in his hands for thirds and tenths of prizes was expected by their Lordships order. (iii) That he has paid several sums for discount of tallies before the end of the month and which he left out of his account. (iii) Some bills paid at Portsmouth have not been assigned for his voucher. (iv) Our account is for the whole time of the Treasurer but he does not know how the cash and tallies stand for the time that Mr Stevens was Cashier. (v) We understand that the deficiency of the old money mentioned amounting to £43,742.3.9 1/2 is not to be made good and Mr Dodington says that sum should be taken off the account. Signed by the Navy Board Commissioners.
