In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Pursuant to your directions of 19 February, we have perused Mr Culliford and Mr Evernden's proposals and have carefully surveyed their pattern of English Duck canvas of 24 inches broad. These gentlemen have promised that no one piece of that they make of this pattern shall be found worse than the pattern itself and will be better than any Holland's Duck or any other sort of canvas, and they believe it is the most proper cloth to make courses and topsails for the SOVEREIGN. By a letter from the Master Attendant and the Clerk of the Survey at Woolwich, 8,800 yards of this cloth may be a fitting proportion to make courses and topsails for the SOVEREIGN. Signed by Navy Board Officers.
