In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
In obedience to your order of 21 February, herewith an account of the stores remaining here as at January and the names of several ships that have their riggings fitted and the proportion of stores provided for them. Their cables are not included by reason of the great space they take up. We calculate there are more 100 in store yet we shall want above 70 to complete all required. The Ropemakers have not been able to get them ready this winter though they have worked 16 days all this time because of the great quantity of cordage required, both here and at Sheerness to fit rigging for the several ships at both places. We cannot provide these 70 cables at the rate they now work in under 6 months and there will be about 80 more wanted for the moorings here this summer. The QUEEN and 37 other ships are listed. Signed by Sampson Bourn, Charles Finch, and two others; all Officers at Chatham Dockyard.
