In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
We received your letter of 28 February about the petition of Mr Robert Colpepper for making the harbour of Rye serviceable for His Majesty's ships. We received your directions in June last to survey the western ports and found that Rye was incapable of being made serviceable which Mr Colpepper concurred with. As to his cutting a new harbour at Winchelsea and Hastings, it being a mile distant to the west of Rye, we cannot give a satisfactory account not being acquainted with the exact plan of what is proposed. Signed by Thomas Willsham, James Conaway, and one other; Trinity House.
