The appointment's for John Marshall as Midshipman on the AURORA after serving as 1st class boy on the same ship 13th February 1800 to 17th March 1802; certificate on HMS LATONA 18th March 1802 to 16th October 1802 as Midshipman and Masters Mate certificate on HMS RUSSELL dated 11th December 1805 to 24th October 1806.

Administrative / biographical background
HMS Aurora (1777) was a 28-gun Enterprise-class sixth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy, that saw service during the American and French Revolutionary wars, and the Napoleonic wars. HMS Latona (1781) was a 38-gun, 18-pounder gun armed fifth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy. She served in the American revolution, the French Revolutionary Wars, and the Napoleonic Wars. She was broken up in 1816. HMS Russell (1764) was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy.
