Notebook of George Mundy in the Mediterranean, 1793-1799.
Leather bound notebook with remarks made by George Mundy during his service in the Mediterranean between December 1793 and February 1799.
It records Mundy's experiences as a midshipman on HMS JUNO (1780) and HMS L’AIGLE (captured 1782); then as a lieutenant on HMS SAINT GEORGE (1785), HMS BLENHEIM (1761), HMS VICTORY (1765) and HMS GOLIATH (1781). It concludes when he joins his first command, the brig HMS TRANSFER (captured 1796). He was present during the escape of the JUNO from Toulon, the British invasion of Corsica, the sieges at San Fiorenzo, Bastia and Calvi, the Battle of Cape St. Vincent and the Battle of the Nile.
The volume has copies of memoranda on the victualling of ships in the Levant, the overflowing of the River Nile, and French possessions in Egypt. There are folded drawings of Aboukir Bay, Ajaccio Bay, Nichola Bay on the island of Tinos, Lagos Bay in Portugal, and the GOLIATH at Alexandria and Damietta.
