Barlow describes the route taken by the RAINBOW to China. They arrive at Tonkin and hear news of a massacre of the English at Mergea by the Siamese. They anchor upriver for six months, careening the ship to repair damage to the bottom. Barlow visits Cacho [possibly Qinzhou], where the East India Company has a factory. Barlow describes the produce and products of the rice-growing region.
