In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
A Court Martial held on board HMS WINDSOR at Spithead on the 16 May 1696. Present - Captain Thomas Warren Commander of HMS Windsor and C in C of HM Ships bound for the East Indies. Present Captains Bicks, Kirby, [Deans}, Acton, Wager, Wakolin, Adamson, Daniel, Stepney, Jesson, Bowels, Browns, Redman, Adamson Dyer. All duly sworn pursuant to an Act of Parliament. Benjamin Goslin Gunner of HMS Southampton was accused of embezzling 5 upper deck cartridges of powder. The matter was sufficiently proved and he was found guilty under article 24, but as the cartridges we seized going over the side and is of good character in all other regards, he is to forfeit 5 months pay to the Chest at Chatham.
