Extract: Having only one day on board, I have been informed by my Officers that the rudder is defective and she will not hold a Tack. They had sent our Carpenter to the Master Builder at Sheerness for his opinion. He considers that it dangerous to go to sea particularly in the Narrows. Signed Captain Richard Athoy of the RUBY.
