Royal Humane Society certificates, 1828-1837.
Three rolled vellum certificates presented to Dobbie, following unanimous resolutions passed at meetings of the Royal Humane Society at Blackfriars, London:
(1) Certificate relating to a resolution passed on 17 December 1828, for two separate acts of lifesaving. While serving as a midshipman on HMS PYRAMUS (1810) in December 1827, Dobbie jumped overboard to save the life of an officer who had fallen into the Tagus. While serving on HMS RANGER (1820) in October 1828, he leapt overboard to the aid of a seaman who had fallen into the Medway.
(2) Certificate relating to a resolution passed on 12 January 1831, confirming Dobbie's entitlement to the Honorary Medallion of the Society, for his act of lifesaving while serving as a midshipman on HMS WINCHESTER (1822) at Portsmouth Harbour in February 1830. He went to the aid of a midshipman who had accidentally fallen overboard from HMS GALATEA (1810).
(3) Certificate relating to resolution passed on 4 January 1837, confirming Dobbie's entitlement to a second Honorary Medallion of the Society, for his act of lifesaving in September 1836, when he jumped overboard to the aid of three seamen who had fallen from HMS MAGICIENNE (1831).
