Correspondence relating to Dobbie's acts of lifesaving:
(1) Copy of a statement confirming the presentation of a Royal Humane Society certificate to Dobbie following a unanimous resolution passed on 17 December 1828. It recognizes two acts of lifesaving while he was serving on HMS PYRAMUS (1810) in December 1827 and HMS RANGER (1820) in October 1828.
(2) Letter from J. Tweed to Captain William Hugh Dobbie at Saling Hall, Essex, dated 23 October 1828. It discusses lines of verse composed to celebrate his son’s recent act of lifesaving while serving on the RANGER at Chatham.
(3) Letter to Dobbie’s father from John Frost, Secretary to the Royal Humane Society, 29 Bridge Street, Blackfriars, London, dated 20 March 1829. The reverse has a copy of a reply written at Saling Hall on 23 March 1829.
