Duncan Gordon Addison-Scott obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Edinburgh in 1903 and was appointed Surgeon to His Majesty’s Fleet on 21 November 1904. He was promoted to staff surgeon and surgeon lieutenant-commander on 21 November 1912, and then to surgeon commander on 1 October 1917. He served as part of the British Adriatic Squadron on board HMS EARL OF PETERBOROUGH during World War I. He retired on 26 July 1928 and gained the rank of retired surgeon captain. He is thought to be related to Captain George Scott, 1782-1866 (see catalogue ref: SOT/1-9) but is probably not a direct descendant, and precisely how the two men are related has not yet been ascertained.
