Some examples of papers included are: an original handwritten letter dated 15 November 1800 along with a typed transcript regarding tenders for vessels; a letter to George Hilhouse from Abraham Woolcott, about supplying engines; a letter to James Hillhouse from Wm White, Deptford, dated 9 June 1808, concerning shipbuilding; an invoice for planks and timber etc shipped on board the RACHAEL, 16 December 1817; particulars of new ship; a letter to Hilhouse & Co and others from the Bristol Dock company dated 17 April 1819, concerning the building of a new road; a letter to Mr Hill from William Armstrong, dated 15 November 1823, concerning engine specifications; a note of goods shipped from Odessa, 1835; memos of sailing, insurances, cargo, and the coppering of ships, 1836-8; the apprentice's indenture of William Sawyer, to Charles Hill, for education as a Shipwright, 1839; William Sawyer's discharge certificate, 1847; three copies of the articles of partnership for five years of George Hilhouse and Charles Hill, dated 31 December 1839; documents showing the plan and particulars of a new freehold dockyard in Bristol and papers headed ‘Enquiries relative to New Dock (undated); a notice from Lloyds Register concerning Ships Classed Æ, dated 31 December 1840; valuations of Albion dockyard, 1851; the manifest of the British bark HORNBY from the Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius, 1856; statement of general average of the HORNBY, 1856.
