Uncatalogued (O1-O13): British Apprentice Club, New York.

Index cards of the membership of the British Apprentice Club (BAC) in New York. Each card provides name, home address, vessel name, shipowners name, dates (month and year), plus some details of ranks, decorations, and deaths. The cards appear to be colour coded to indicate year and numbers in the top corner may relate to registers of seamen visiting the BAC. Consisting of about 12,000 cards in 12 boxes:

Box O4: Grey card box containing index cards for surnames F-Ha.

Box O8: Grey card box containing index cards for surnames N-Re.
Box O9: White card box containing index cards for surnames Re-Sm.
Box O10: White card box containing index cards for surnames Sm-T.
Box O11: White card box containing index cards for surnames T-Wi.
Box O12: Wooden box containing index cards for surnames Wo-Z and deceased members of the BAC since 1937. A note says other deceased members are in General File D.

There is also a folder O13 containing typescript minutes and reports relating to the dissolution of the British Apprentice Club Inc. and disposal of its records: Minutes of the Annual Meeting of Directors; Minutes of the Annual Meeting of Members; Report of M. Moyca Newell, Chairman of the Board; and Report of Marguerite S. Cappa, Manager; all dated 17 May 1961.

Administrative / biographical background
The British Apprentice Club provided hospitality for cadets from British merchant ships while their ships were berthed in New York. It was founded in 1921 and ceased operations in 1961. BAC records are held at the Manuscripts and Archive Division, The New York Public Library (collection reference MssCol 397).
