Uncatalogued: Hamilton collection.

Includes: a folder, two collages, three journals and a wrapped tube. The folder contains two individually wrapped items, as well as a number of other documents. The larger of the wrapped items is a Japanese poem written upon a paper scroll. The smaller item is another scroll of Japanese text, with a translation wrapped around it. The documents within this file include a poem about the return of the CUTTY SARK, titled "By the Old Pagoda Anchorage", and may potentially be a translation of the larger scroll. There are also a number of newspaper and book cuttings relating to the LEANDER, including an obituary for Captain Hamilton, and letters from a variety of senders, including the Merchant Shipping Company of Poplar and Lincoln's Inn Fields. Captain Hamilton's Masters Certificate is also included, as well as a photograph, presumed to be of the Hamilton family. In addition to the folder, there is a tissue-wrapped metal tube which, considering the similar dimensions, likely housed the large Japanese poems at some point. The collages are notably eclectic and include many items/elements from Captain Hamilton's life, such as a photograph of the church where he was Christened and a depiction of the ship upon which he served. Finally, the three journals are in good condition. The largest of the three, bound in red, is only half complete and has an article pressed between its middle pages. The other two books are thinner and smaller, however complete, and one has two leaves mounted and pressed between its pages.
